Fatherhood Ministry
Importance
of
Fatherhood
They say 7 in 10 Americans struggle financially or lack the financial discipline to manage money. Not only that, but the number of youngsters who get into drugs continue to rise. The main reason for these problems? Fatherlessness. In fact, the absence of fathers or father figures also contributes greatly to the risk of family poverty, teen pregnancy, violence in the community, gender dysphoria, teens and young adults (especially males) going to prison, and kids dropping out of school. It’s without a shadow of doubt that fathers play very important roles in the upbringing of children and the shaping of society.
Fatherhood is so important that God instituted it right from the beginning when He created mankind. Although He is God, the Lord had a close-knit fatherly relationship with Adam. God provided, fed, taught, and disciplined the first man He made like His own child. If we examined the Bible closely, fatherhood is a running thread throughout His Word. If we are to greatly reduce the problems that we have and make it better for all, fatherhood must be reestablished and solidified in the family because the family is the basic element of communities and society.
Purpose of FatherhoodMinistry
Educate men, families, and the communities on the origin and source of fatherlessness
1.
Explain how lack of or poor fatherhood causes harm to children (particularly boys), families, communities, and society
2.
According to 2021 data from the U.S. Census Bureau, about 18.4 million or 1 in 4 children in the U.S. grew up without fathers making America the world leader in fatherlessness despite it being one of the most (if not the most) advanced country on the planet. And this number does not include those children who have fathers living in the home but provide no parenting. Thus, the purpose of the Fatherhood Ministry is to help men understand the significance of their roles as fathers in the family and society and to equip them with the truth they need to become godly fathers. The ministry’s purpose is four-fold as follow:
Elucidate why the Enemy so want to keep men from being fathers to their children, families, and communities
3.
4.
Renew the minds of and equip men with the truth so that they can break free of the generational curse of fatherlessness and become the fathers God intends for them to be
Why Did Cain Kill Abel?
In Genesis 4, Adam’s wife Eve gave birth to two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain was a worker of the ground and Abel was a shepherd. Then Genesis 4:3-4 tells us, “In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.” God was pleased with Abel’s offering but not Cain’s. Because of this, Cain was very angry. One day, Cain and his brother Abel went out into the field; it was there that Cain murdered Abel.
Fatherlessness:
A Generational Curse
Many times, we tend to think of fatherlessness as the absence of a father or father figure completely from a family. However, fatherlessness can also be a lack of a father or fatherhood; in this situation, dad may be present physically but his mind is elsewhere or his parenting is lacking. In fact, there is far more of the latter than the former in our society, which you will learn about here. If you read the article “Why Did Cain Killed Abel?” you will know that fatherlessness is not a recent problem of society. It is an issue that dates back to the beginning of mankind’s existence starting with the first man created by God: Adam. A lack of or poor fatherhood in Adam’s family led to the horrific killing of his son Abel by his other son Cain, the elder of the two sons.
Ken and his wife Choua know that children are a gift from God. They have six amazing and lovely children. Thus, Ken knows and understands very well what it’s like to be a father, especially in a world that is dark and broken. As a dad, he is heavily involved in the parenting of their six kids (from schooling to sports to hobbies to life skills and beyond).
Ken believes that the key scripture from the Bible to being a successful father is Proverbs 22:6 KJV which says, “Train up a child in the way [of the Lord that] he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Having said this, all of Ken and Choua’s kids are active in children and youth ministries. In addition, their children participate in various vocational Bible school programs as well to help deepen their understanding of the Word of God. Further, Ken is a firm believer of being a doer of the Word (not just hearing it). Thus, he instills it daily into his children’s walk with the Lord.
Moreover, Ken also believes that a good father not only trains his children in the way of the Lord, but he too must train himself in the Word as well. Why is this important? For two reasons: (1) The “ . . . enemy the devil [constantly] prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8) and (2) “‘If the blind [someone who doesn’t know and practice the truth] lead the blind, both will fall into a pit’” (Matthew 15:14). This is why a father must know the Word and practice it in his own life, if he desires to give no place to the Devil and lead his children victoriously.
